Geologist Nick Zentner, who host the series Nick on the Rocks, describes the geology of Steamboat Rock in this video. These clever fellows, who make a comedic web series titled “The Marvelous M”, have an episode featuring the Grand Coulee Dam including footage of the dam, a scene at the visitor center, and more coulee locations.
There’s a bull ride and wild horse race on Friday, then fireworks on Saturday night may be enjoyed from a park or from the waters of Banks Lake. That comes after Saturday’s Koulee Kids Fest with plenty of activities for the kiddos, and a traveling show going around Eastern Washington.
The Ridge Riders Rodeo Grounds in Delano on Alcan Road will host the bulls and wild horses at 6 p.m. on Friday June 15. Read more about it here

Fireworks will be launched on Saturday, June 16, from North Dam, and can be seen from the nearby Banks Lake Park, North Dam Park, Coulee Playland, and from the waters of Banks Lake. Read more about that event here

Grand Coulee is still a boom town! Voltage Coffee House opened recently, and this weekend both Titwaatit Art Gallery and The Wine Bar will be opening.
The coffee shop and art gallery are both located on Spokane Way, and The Wine Bar is located on Main Street.

The Wine Bar will be holding a soft opening this Memorial Day weekend starting on Friday May 25, and plans a grand opening next weekend. The Memorial Day weekend’s hours are 4-10 p.m. on Friday; 2 p.m. until midnight on Saturday; 1-9 p.m. on Sunday; and 12-8 p.m. on Monday. Cheers!
Carnival tickets are on sale this week, offering substantial savings for early birds, a chamber of commerce official reported.
Executive Director Peggy Nevsimal stated those who purchase carnival tickets by Thursday, May 10, will save $10. Tickets for early buyers are $20, while the same ticket will cost $30 the day of the carnival.
Nevsimal said tickets will be available at the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce office, Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, Coulee Hardware, The Star newspaper, Loepps Furniture, H&H Grocery and the Trading Post at the Colville Indian Agency.
The carnival has added five hours on Sunday, providing four days of carnival entertainment for Colorama fans.
Carnival hours will be from 4-9 on Thursday, May 10; 4-9 on Friday, May 11; 12-9 on Saturday, May 12; and 12-5 on Sunday, Mother’s Day.
This marks the second year for the popular Rainier Amusements, a family-owned carnival out of Portland, Oregon.
“We are happy to have Rainier Amusements back for their second year,” Nevsimal stated Tuesday. The Portland-based carnival company is under contract to return again next year.
Rainier Amusements regularly travels to festival sites in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Tickets go on sale at all seven sites beginning today, Wednesday.
