It’s not just a dam run anymore.
The Dam Run has morphed into more than a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon race on Saturday, Sept. 16. Now it’s a whole festival.

And Sunbanks Lake Resort is wrapping up its lineup of music festivals with a weekend of tributes to great rock bands.

Run the Dam now offers food, vendors, beer garden, live entertainment, Kids Korner and more.

Bull riding and concert series will feature talent from near and far

 

A series of free concerts is scheduled for North Dam Park and events center this month, starting on Friday, Aug. 17.

And the Wednesday night before that, bull riding fans can get their fix of “beer, burgers and bulls” in a special event at the Ridge Riders Rodeo Grounds.

The rodeo grounds open at 6 p.m., Aug. 15, for what could become a frequent event next year. Bull riding begins at 7 p.m.
Then on Friday night, a local rock group called Mister Meaner will take to the “stage” at the bottom of the grass amphitheater.
The very next evening a cool trio from Spokane, The 45s, will rock your Saturday night with a rockabilly sound. Think “The Stray Cats” and you’ll come to close to hearing this fun band.

The next weekend starts with a Friday night concert by Thirsty Perfect, a Coeur D’Alene, Idaho Christian rock band, sponsored by Faith Commu

 

nity Church. The next night Mister Meaner hopes the word will have spread, and you’ll bring your friends back for a good time.

Labor Day weekend kicks of Aug. 31 with a big-name band in the Pacific Northwest — Jr. Cadillac. Folks who gathered for their concert in the park last year had a great time, and said they wanted more.
Saturday night, Sept. 1, will see another encore from a band that proved popular last year. “33” bills itself as the loudest band in Spokane. By the way, we should do something to welcome back Joe Oliver that night, a band member originally from the coulee.

The series is sponsored by the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce, which is advertising it across the state and paying for it with the help of tourism tax dollars from Electric City, Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam.

Really loud music coming on Friday

A band that claims to be Spokane’s loudest will play Friday night North Dam Park and Event Center.

33 will rock out the amphitheater at North Dam Park and Event Center Friday, for free

The two-hour concert (7-9 p.m.) is free, sponsored by a hearing aid business (kidding, but it is free).

33 is allegedly responsible for forcing the management of popular music venues in Spokane to repaint interior walls with their 136-decibel sound. Just kidding about the paint, too, but I think that dB figure is right.

The band is being brought in by the Coulee Area Park and Recreation District.

Fantastic weekend for blues lovers

Bummed that you missed last week’s free concert by Jr. Cadillac? Don’t be.

Sunbanks Lake Resort is offering a great lineup of about 19 bands listed for  this weekend at their annual fall Blues Festival.

This is a beautiful setting and a great time. Call the resort for details and to see if there is any room available. Or get another room or campground locally.

Note: If you’re a boater, the only access to Banks Lake right now is at Coulee Playland, just down the street. The upside of this: The water is reportedly warmer than normal and beaches are BIG. This is a temporary thing for this year only. The USBR is lowering the lake for maintenance purposes.

Rock it at North Dam with Jr. Cadillac!

This is the ultimate Good Time Band, and they’ll play in Grand Coulee Sept. 3.

Seattle’s legendary good-time rock n roll band… Jr. Cadillac will play at North Dam Park for your enjoyment Saturday, Sept. 3, and it won’t cost you a bloody thing!

These guys put on a helluva show. They’re entertainers and really, really fine musicians. Take a listen.

What do they play? A mixture of stuff from the four decades they’ve been teaching the Pacific Northwest how to have a good time. Start with Louie Louie and then get more fun.

We’re talking the big band, with horns and all that. No slowed down boom-chick-chick stuff. This is a big show.

And it’s free. Paid for (mostly) with Hotel/Motel taxes like the ones you pay whenever you check into a motel room or campsite. So kiss the next tourist you see. (If you are a tourist, leave a message and we can connect at the show!)

North Dam Park features a grassy amphitheater. Bring your blankets, your picnic stuff. Some shade and some sunscreen. We figure we can fit 1,500 people. First come, first served.

And get ready to rock at North Dam.
